The Perfect Gift

What is the perfect gift? There’s a huge difference in my desire to give, how much I can afford, and how meaningful will the actual gift be to the person.

Sometimes I find that it’s so hard to figure out… and I need to dig into the person’s life to find out what is actually meaningful.

In our family… I have realized that both Jared & Marlene’s love language is “gifts”. Small gifts, free gifts, big gifts, wrapped gifts, frequent gifts and the anticipation of gifts is all good.

The flip side to this story is… I like giving… I would much rather give than receive. My love language is “time”. Time spent together doing something (snowboarding, skiing, camping, bike riding, roller blading, motorcycling or just sitting in the hot tub)… just give me the gift of time.

So… the best way to give is to find out the love language of the person you want to give to? There are 5 love languages… and some people have more than one!

Quality Time - with activities and/or conversation

Receiving Gifts - some feel a lack of gifts = a lack of love - the gift is a symbol of love.

Act of Service - doing things for the person… what do they need? Car washed and
vacuumed? Dinner, put the kids to bed or arranging a get-away? Help with homework??

Physical Touch - does your kid love wrestling & loves hugs? What about your spouse—a hug, holding hands or how about a massage.

Words of Affirmation / Encouragement - ”You’re a great kid!” “I’m proud of you.” “You’re an awesome cook” or “You look great in that outfit!”

In the end… a meaningful gift doesn’t have to be expensive, rare or even 3 dimensional! Some of my best gifts in the past were - a life changing book, a nudge to attend a seminar, coaching by my accountability partner when life gets messy or over full. Another is wisdom from my Real Estate Coach at By Referral Only Marketing University.

The key is… to assess what that special person really needs… not just at Christmas… but whenever the time is right.
