Perspective
As I get older… I sometimes fall into the “natural trap” looking at what others have and feeling like a winner or loser… depending where I am at the time.
I remember going on an out of town business trip to a Ritzy City where it seemed that every car on the street was a Porche, Mercedes, or Ferrari. The shopping mall was selling $400 blue jeans, $17,000 leather jacket & $1000 shoes… Wow! I felt that life had passed me by!
Then thinking about our mission trip to Guatemala no resort towns here! The back of the pick up truck was your taxi and the
shopping mall was a street with live chickens and pigs (we saw the guy take the pigs to market… WITH A LEASH - 4 pigs in tow- just like walking the dog down the sidewalk).
Wow… how blessed I was to be living in Canada, to have running water, real toilets, a car to drive & Costco. Its all to do with
perspective. A few weeks ago I read this poem and for me… it was a home run on perspective.
Mother Teresa’s Anyway Poem
People are often unreasonable, illogical & self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends & some true enemies; Succeed anyway.
If you are honest & frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest & frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight:
Build anyway
If you find serenity & happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and your God;
It was never between you and them anyway.
