Memories From The Past
Morning Sickness...many pregnant women get morning sickness at one point or another...but at my cousin Daryl’s wedding, the M.C. commented that Daryl was so ugly, his mom got morning sickness... when he was born...he was not a pretty baby…(kidding).
The circle of life is not possible without our mom’s. Babies grow into children, teens and then all of the sudden they are adults...out of the house, all grown up and starting their own legacy.
What did my Mom do for fun… I think this is how I remember it. When I was growing up on a 40 acre raspberry farm...my mom worked harder than ever to keep things sane around the house and farm. She’d be helping Dad tie, prune, & top the berries, drag irrigation pipes, rotovate, drive a bus, dump truck, fork lift, tractor and supervise 200+ pickers a day in the summer time.
The interesting part is that she was able to do all that in her spare time as she would be cooking, baking and cleaning for us 6 kids, do the laundry, throw birthday parties, and
entertain friends in between shopping for food, caring for which ever kid fell, got sick, or needed a little extra love that day.
Then came Sundays...and the rock and roll of getting the 6 kids ready for Sunday school and church. What we needed to wear, feeding us breakfast, then kid 1,2 and 6 needed help with the memory verse, and kid 2 and 4 needed quick hair cuts, as kid 3 just spilt milk all over the kitchen floor...and dealing with a few of us who periodically needed a little attitude
adjustment.
My Mom was also a great referee. No-not a sports mom...it was more about who did what to who. Who needed to stand in the corner, or kiss and make-up or say sorry. She would even sort things out with the school bully and the principal. Then there was high school, helping us learn to drive a car, helping us mend broken bones, teaching us manners for dating, catching us smoking, helping us get our first jobs off the farm, encouraging us, & other minor issues like graduation, weddings and becoming a grandma & family gatherings.
WOW...thanks Mom, you must be tired...or retired!
